The City of Henderson Cultural Arts & Tourism Department recognizes Jazz Appreciation Month with free performances each Thursday in April at 8 p.m. at the Henderson Events Plaza, located at 200 S. Water Street. Several family friendly performances have been scheduled for the upcoming month and feature a multitude of entertaining jazz bands.

The annual Henderson Heritage Parade & Festival will take place on Saturday, April 19 in the Water Street District in Henderson from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. The community-wide event, which allows residents to celebrate 55 years of Henderson’s heritage and vitality, features a pancake breakfast, parade and the International Food & Folklife Festival.

Over 10,000 people crowded the streets of downtown Henderson for the 42^nd annual “Southern Nevada Sons of Erin” St. Patrick’s Day Parade & Festival on Saturday, March 15.

The City of Henderson recognizes Sally Ahlstedt as a recipient of a Governor’s Arts Award for Leadership in the Arts: Individual. Ahlstedt will be honored at a public ceremony on Thursday, March 27 from 6-9 p.m. at the Charleston Heights Arts Center, located at 800 S. Brush Street in Las Vegas. Tickets are $40.

The City of Henderson Cultural Arts & Tourism Department is pleased to announce that Drake Bell, the star of Nickelodeon’s award-winning show Drake & Josh, will perform at the Henderson Pavilion, located at 200 S. Green Valley Parkway, on Saturday, April 19 at 7 p.m.

Local icon Norm Johnson, best known for his award-winning journalism and the founder of the Mint 400 Off-Road Desert Race, has recently turned his focus on sculpting. To commemorate his new-found passion, the City of Henderson will recognize Johnson as one of the featured artists at the 11^th annual ArtFest^TM of Henderson, May 10-11 in the Water Street District in downtown Henderson. Johnson’s sculptures will be on display from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., both days. This family-friendly event is free and open to the public.

Jazz singing sensation, Sophie Milman returns to the Henderson Events Plaza, located at 200 S. Water Street, on Friday, April 11 at 7 p.m. Milman will debut material from her much-anticipated new album, Make Someone Happy.

The City of Henderson Cultural Arts & Tourism Department in conjunction with the Southern Nevada Sons of Erin announced that The Scintas and 11-year-old singer Ellie Smith will serve as the grand marshals for the 42^nd annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade on Saturday, March 15 at 10 a.m. in downtown Henderson.

The City of Henderson Cultural Arts & Tourism Department will host auditions for the Missoula Children’s Theatre production of “The Pied Piper”. Two auditions will be held for children, kindergarten through 12^th grade at various locations in Henderson.

Local art teacher and porcelain sculptor Teresa Testa has been selected to be an honorary featured artist at this year’s ArtFest^TM of Henderson, which celebrates its 11^th anniversary on Saturday, May 10 and Sunday, May 11 in the Water Street District in downtown Henderson. Testa’s artwork will be on display from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., both days. This family-friendly event is free and open to the public.

The City of Henderson Cultural Arts & Tourism Department announced the Spring 2008 Season Schedule today. This season residents will enjoy an array of high-quality performances and events that will include some favorites such as the Henderson Heritage Parade and Festival as well as a showcase of performers catering to a variety of musical tastes from the Fresh Aire sounds of Mannheim Steamroller to the upbeat vocals of teen sensation Drake Bell.

Over 1,500 people crowded the streets of downtown Henderson for the inaugural WinterFest parade on Saturday, December 8. More than 60 parade units, including several bands, youth groups and businesses marched to the theme of “Toys on Parade”.

From December 6-9, in the Water Street District in downtown Henderson, the City will host its annual WinterFest Celebration featuring festive activities and entertainment that the whole family can enjoy.

The City is delighted to welcome a great addition to the Henderson’s Terrible 400 Desert Race week of festivities, November 28 - December 2. Yellow Brick Road (YBR), a local classic rock tribute band, will perform a free concert in the Water Street District in downtown Henderson on Friday, November 30 from 6:30 - 8 p.m. All events are free to spectators.

In conjunction with Best In The Desert Racing Association, Herbst Gaming and the City of Boulder City, the City of Henderson is delighted to announce this year’s Henderson’s Terrible 400 schedule of events.

It’s that time of year to get down and dirty with the best of them! The Henderson’s Terrible 400 Desert Race returns for its 6^th year to the Eldorado Valley, located between Henderson and Boulder City, on Saturday, December 1. Over 30 classes of series championships will compete for the final trophy of the year as the Best in the Desert six-race series comes to an end.

It will be one hot night when Spanish guitar sensation Roni Benise performs his Emmy Award-winning production, Benise: Nights of Fire, at the Henderson Pavilion, located at 200 S. Green Valley Parkway, on Saturday, October 20 at 8 p.m.

Voted by Guitar Player readers as 2007's Best Blues Guitarist, blues-rock guitar virtuoso, vocalist and songwriter Joe Bonamassa visits the City of Henderson to perform a concert and introduce the public to the “Blues In The Schools” educational outreach program this weekend.

Rock singer/electric violinist phenomenon Antonio Pontarelli has been added as the opening act for the rock extravaganza line-up with Vince Neil, Slaughter and Quiet Riot on Saturday, September 1 at 7 p.m. at the Henderson Pavilion located at 200 S. Green Valley Parkway.
