TransWest Ford Henderson 250 Desert Race is just one of many sporting events hosted by destination
For the 10th straight year, thousands of off-road enthusiasts will gather in Henderson for the TransWest Ford Henderson 250 Desert Race. Just one of many championship sporting events hosted in the premier destination, the annual Best In The Desert sanctioned competition is scheduled for December 2-3, 2011. It will attract over 20,000 people from states such as Utah, California, Arizona and New Mexico to Southern Nevada to experience incredible off-road racing action. As the final race of the year, this event will determine an overall series winner in 13 different classes, from professionals to amateurs. Admission is complimentary for spectators.
More than 150 race teams will take to the rugged terrains, just 35 minutes south of Henderson in Jean, Nevada, while driving cars, trucks, motorcycles, quads and UTVs on race day, Saturday, December 3. The green flag will drop for the first race at 6:15 a.m. with motorcycles, quads and UTV’s making three laps around a 45-mile loop with a Grand Prix finish. At approximately 9 a.m., various classes, including cars and trucks, will test their limits while driving an 80-mile loop twice. The final competition will begin at approximately 1:30 p.m. and will feature the other racing classes completing three laps of an 80-mile track. Fans, friends and family members are able to view the race from two designated spectator areas along the course.
Prior to the main event, fans are invited to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the annual desert race weekend with the Off-Road Expo on Friday, December 2 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. in Henderson’s historic Water Street District. The expo will feature driver meet and greets and hundreds of off-road vehicles on display for technical and contingency inspections. Additional festivities include music, food and merchandise vendors. Admission is complimentary.
The TransWest Ford Henderson 250 Desert Race is just one of many elite sporting events hosted in Henderson that attracts thousands of competitors and supporters from all over the world to our premier destination. Most recently, the city welcomed over 1,500 athletes, their families and fans for September’s Ironman World Championship 70.3 and November’s ITU Long Course Triathlon World Championships attracted nearly 900 participants, plus relatives and friends. A multitude of visitors are expected for future world-class competitions, the 2012 U.S. Open Synchronized Swimming and the 2013 WTBA World Championships.
