HENDERSON URGES RESIDENTS TO USE ALTERNATIVE TRANSPORTATION FOR FOURTH OF JULY

Car pooling, cycling or walking to city’s annual event will reduce traffic

To reduce traffic congestion, the City of Henderson is encouraging its residents to take alternative modes of transportation, including car pooling, riding their bike or walking, to this year’s Independence Day Celebration, being held Monday, July 4 at Basic High School football field, 400 Palo Verde Drive, from 6 p.m. – 9 p.m.

Although handicap parking will only be permitted at Basic’s parking lot, several satellite locations such as Valley View Recreation Center & Morrell Park, 500 Harris Street; Heritage Park Senior Center & Aquatic Complex, 310 S. Racetrack Road; and the church lot, 1002 Burkholder Boulevard, have been designated to accommodate guest parking. To ease travelling to the school, Henderson is providing complimentary shuttle service, scheduled to run continuous routes to the event, beginning at 5:30 p.m.

Others may choose different low cost transportation methods like walking or riding their bicycle to the holiday’s festivities. Cyclists are encouraged to lock their bicycles at the racks found on Basic’s school grounds.

In addition, Pueblo Street will be closed from Burkholder Boulevard to Dooley Drive from noon – 11 p.m. for the Fourth of July fun. Commuters may need to use alternate streets to get to their destination.

Henderson’s Independence Day Celebration will feature live entertainment by local musical groups including The Randy Anderson Band, performing favorite country music tunes, and The Downstrokes with their tribute to the legends of classic rock. Concessions will be provided by Basic with proceeds benefiting several of the school’s student organizations and sports programs. To bring the evening to a close, a spectacular fireworks display will light the sky, beginning at 9 p.m. Admission is complimentary.
