Hailed as “The Latin Riverdance,” the family-friendly, all ages show discovers world cultures through music and dance with Benise’s enchanted Spanish guitar becoming a treasure chest of inspiration. With its marriage of emotional melodies, brilliantly choreographed dance numbers and orchestral pieces, The Spanish Guitar features poignant stories of romance, bliss and love lost.
The musical tales come to life, not only with Benise’s passionate performance, but with the sensational talents of his female dancers, the Gitanas. The group, which was hand-selected from a global pool of Flamenco and Broadway performers, as well as soloists from Madonna, Celine Dion and Ricky Martin, are dressed in breathtaking couture fashions, dancing to infectious rhythms played by his band of world-class musicians. Such artists as Karen Briggs of Yanni fame and internationally-renowned Cuban percussionist Daniel de los Reyes, recognized for his appearances with musical powerhouses as Sting, Sheryl Crow, Jennifer Lopez and Shakira, accentuate the cultural delight of The Spanish Guitar.
Benise’s personal story is as driving and inspirational as his music. The guitar found him at 11 years old, a connection that would begin his journey towards worldwide recognition for his stunningly unique Nouveau Flamenco style. Entirely self-taught and unable to read the notes he composes, Benise pulls influence from, not just the sound of the artists he once aspired to reproduce, but the very environment around him through his travels.
Always redefining the ordinary, Benise began to promote his own concerts, selling out theatres and eventually bringing mega stage hits on the road. As part of the multi-city tour, The Spanish Guitar coincides with a PBS pledge special, which was filmed over three years across 10 countries, an album and DVD release, as well as a critically-acclaimed performance on Dancing With The Stars, world tours in India and Middle East. The Spanish Guitar is directed by Raj Kapoor, known for producing and directing stage tours for Josh Groban and American Idol, as well as choreographed by Brazilian-born, Emmy-nominated Alex Magno, famous for his arrangement of dance routines for Madonna and Yanni.
The Spanish Guitar joins a collection of unforgettable performances at the Henderson Pavilion. Each season the open-air theatre presents concerts and musical productions rich in culture, such as Irish sensations Celtic Woman and international phenoms Pink Martini, to engaging renditions of The Wizard of Oz and Moscow Ballet’s The Nutcracker.
