‘80s band to perform “Only the Lonely,” “Suddenly Last Summer” & “Remember the Nights” at ArtBeat presented by Target
Turning 60 this year hasn’t stopped Martha Davis from rockin’ the stage! Next month, she will join her band, The Motels, in Henderson for a special concert at the city’s signature cultural arts series, ArtBeat presented by Target. The group will perform songs from the ‘80s including mega hits, “Only the Lonely,” “Suddenly Las Summer” and “Remember the Nights” on Friday, June 17 at 8 p.m. at the Henderson Events Plaza, 200 S. Water Street, in the Water Street District. Admission is complimentary.
Davis, a 40-year veteran of the music industry, is the only original member of The Motels still performing with the band since its inception in 1978. An award-winning singer/songwriter, Davis led the group with her spellbinding vocals for nearly 20 years, sharing their domination of the radio airwaves in the early ‘80s including two Top 10 songs, “Only the Lonely” and “Suddenly Last Summer,” as well as popular tunes, “Remember the Nights” and “Shame.”
In 1987, Davis announced her departure from The Motels, a move that resulted in the band dissolving, to venture out as a solo artist. For over decade, she experimented with new sounds, harmonies and hooks, but resurrected her role as lead singer for The Motels in 1998.
Currently, Davis continues to record new music as a soloist, managing several unique projects including two albums, Martha Davis: I Have My Standards, featuring a collection of jazz-inspired songs, and Red Frog Presents 16 Songs for Parents and Children, an anthology of quirky and fun music for children.
She still sings with The Motels and is embarking on a nationwide tour this year, performing timeless classics from the band’s heyday for thousands of doting fans, as well as playing original music from her career as a solo artist.
