HENDERSON SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA RECOGNIZES YOUNG ARTISTS COMPETITION WINNERS

 
Top youth instrumentalists in Clark County will perform solos with orchestra at spring concert
 
The Henderson Symphony Orchestra will feature winners of this year’s 14th annual Young Artists Competition during the ensemble’s Concert Series II performance on Sunday, March 27 at 2 p.m. at the Henderson Pavilion, 200 S. Green Valley Parkway. Admission is complimentary.
 
In January, students auditioned before a panel of judges. The top six instrumentalists were chosen to perform a solo with the orchestra under the direction of the Henderson Symphony Orchestra’s conductor, Taras Krysa.
 
Victoria Young, Piano, 6th grade, Bob Miller Middle School
Tussah Heera, Piano, 10th grade, Home Schooled
Tamas Toka, Violin, 10th grade, Odyssey Charter School
Grace Hauen Kim, Piano, 11th grade, Las Vegas Academy
David Chavez, Viola, 12th grade, Las Vegas Academy
Tammy Hung, Violin, 12th grade, Advanced Technologies Academy
 
The concert will begin with performances by a gifted pianist and two exemplary violinists. Sophomore, Tussah Heera, will open the show with Chopin’s Piano Concerto #1 in E – 3rd movement, followed by Tammy Hung presenting Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto in D, Op. 353rd movement. Tamas Toka, a sophomore at Odyssey Charter School, will close the first half of the concert with Sarasate’s best-known work, Zigeunerweisen (Gypsy Airs) Op. 20.
 
The second half of the show will highlight the talents of two Las Vegas Academy students, as well as one of the youngest musicians to perform at the show. Grace Hauen Kim will play Haydyn’s Piano Concert in D and Victoria Young, 6th grader at Bob Miller Middle School, will present Bach’s Piano Concerto in D – 1st movement. Completing the lineup of these musical virtuosos is David Chavez performing Hindemith’s Trauermusik.
